Elicit Plant was awarded the Best Innovation for Water Management in Agriculture at the Water Agri Innovation Discovery Summit, organized in Vienna by the Agro Innovation Lab with the support of the European Union. This award highlights the essential role of phytosterols, natural molecules capable of reducing crop water consumption by an average of 20% while maintaining yields in the face of climate change challenges.

A proven technology recognized by the European Union and international scientific experts

This award was granted by a jury of scientific experts to underscore the excellence of a solution that is not merely a concept but an innovative technology, with results based on scientific evidence, successfully deployed, and providing economic benefits in both irrigated and non-irrigated conditions, particularly in Central Europe. Developed and protected by several patents, this innovation demonstrates Elicit Plant’s ability to address current climate challenges with measurable results.

A jury of experts

Peter Strauss | Federal Agency for Water Management

Franz Handler | Innovation Farm

Bano Mehdi-Schulz | BOKU University

Bruno Molle | European Irrigation Association

Mario Schatzinger-Langer | Parga

The selection process was particularly rigorous: among 75 solutions identified worldwide and subjected to an in-depth analysis based on scientific, economic, and performance criteria, only ten European companies were selected to pitch their projects before the jury and the Austrian Minister of Agriculture, host of the event. The jury, composed of experts from European institutions, professional associations such as the European Irrigation

Association, and specialized universities, distinguished Elicit Plant for the impact and relevance of its solution. This recognition illustrates the European Union’s commitment to concrete innovations for more sustainable agriculture.

During the award ceremony, Professor Shultz highlighted the value of our technology in limiting natural water losses by reducing plant evapotranspiration without compromising yields, thereby having a positive impact on preserving available water resources. Dr. Strauss emphasized the significant benefits of our technology, particularly in Poland, where concrete yield results were demonstrated. Dr. Molle, for his part, stressed the compatibility of our solution with irrigation strategies and the economic benefits provided.

Phytosterols to save water and secure yields

Elicit Plant’s solutions stand out for their use of phytosterols, natural molecules present in plants. Applied preventatively, they trigger a series of mechanisms that enable crops to better manage periods of water stress. By optimizing stomatal closure to limit water loss, stimulating root growth to access deeper resources, and enhancing plants’ natural resilience, these molecules reduce crop water consumption by an average of 20%.

Between 2019 and 2023, more than 500 trials conducted in various pedoclimatic contexts confirmed the effectiveness of this technology on crops as diverse as maize, wheat, barley, and sunflower. These results demonstrate that even under challenging conditions, phytosterols help secure yields while reducing pressure on water resources.

Recognition that strengthens Elicit Plant’s ambition

This award, presented during a ceremony at the Austrian Ministry of Agriculture in the presence of the minister and summit participants, marks a major milestone in Elicit Plant’s development. It reflects the importance of innovative solutions in addressing the growing issue of water stress, a global challenge for food security.

Continuing its research and development efforts, Elicit Plant aims to support farmers by providing practical and effective solutions tailored to the increasing challenges of climate change and water management. This European recognition solidifies Elicit Plant’s position as a leader in biosolutions for broad acre crops.
